Advice for leather cleaning

The leather will retain its appearance and its functional properties if used and maintained properly. The correct method of care and handling will depend on the type of leather. Del Sur products are luxury items, and as such should be cared for and protected as experts indicate. Our products are natural and have no plastic or synthetic components.

  • Do not load the bags too much with heavy elements, large and rigid or with sharp shapes to prevent your piece from becoming deformed. Natural leather is very flexible and its fibers naturally tend to open if they are strongly pressed. This is a characteristic of the original leather that is given to prevent skin tearing.

  • Avoid direct and long contact with the sun or humidity.

  • Oils, perfumes, makeup and ink are enemies of leather and very difficult to remove. Avoid direct contact with oily materials, with dyes, etc. For this reason, always isolate these agents with a plastic material or with closed cases.

  • Keep the product in its original packaging (suede bag) if you are not going to use it for extended periods of time. Place it upright, with ink-free paper filling inside. Never stack the products. Even so, always allow some contact of the leather with the environment to avoid the accumulation of moisture. Do not keep your bag hanging from the handles as this can damage their leather and distort the product.

  • Our products are delivered with a bag of Silica Gel. When storing your bag for extended periods, place the Silica Gel bag back inside. If your bag is older than 18 months since its purchase, replace the Silica Gel bag with a new one for storage.

  • It is important that you polish the hardware and metals with the glove provided from the factory. Never use chemical products or abrasives to clean them as they can ruin the leather and metal finish.

  • The most common stains to remove from the bags are the marks of the fingers, but a simple, regular maintenance will prevent them from accumulating in certain areas with much use.

  • Our products are made with premium leather. Take care of the interior and exterior in the same way as it is the most common place where a leak or stains are produced and they can also end up staining the exterior leather of your bag affecting its appearance.

  • There are many agents that can stain the leather. This is why we strongly recommend that whenever you stain your bag, go to a specialist and tell him the origin of the stain so that he gives you the best solution.

  • The type of cleaning treatment you should use depends on the type of leather from which the bag is made.

  • Before trying to remove a stain, you should first try a cleaning method in a hidden area, such as an interior lining, inside or under a pocket. If any color is modified, stop immediately as the treatment is not appropriate.

  • Check the test area for any damage before starting on the outside of the product. If the test area has been made wet, it should be allowed to dry naturally before checking changes.

  • Whatever treatment is used, work on one panel at a time and finalize it before moving on to the next. Give each panel the same treatment for the same period of time. If you use a patented product, carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Advice for cleaning Unfinished leathers

Since water can be absorbed by this type of leather (causing stains), cleaning can be difficult. The surface can be polished with a clean, soft and dry cloth, but the subsequent treatment should be left in the hands of a professional leather cleaner. Do not allow adhesive labels or stickers to stick to the leather as the adhesive can cause discoloration, damage the finish and attract dirt.

Suede leathers

When new, it can be treated with a protective spray. This will improve the resistance to water and grease, but may cause a slight darkening. You must follow the instructions and not hold it too close to the surface of the leather during use. Brush regularly with a soft suede brush or rub gently with a block of plastic foam. Stains and minor marks can be removed with a hard rubber eraser or by rubbing the surface with a fine sandpaper. When wet, let dry naturally away from direct heat. Leather garments should not be dried in front of the fire or hung on the radiator! Do not allow adhesive labels or stickers to stick to the chamois as the adhesive can cause discoloration, Damage the finish and attract dirt.

Exposure to water or moisture

The water may darken temporarily while the leather is wet, but it should be dried to the original color. If there is a residual darkening, then the suede can brush to restore the original color. Since this is likely to happen every time the garment gets wet, you can use a protective spray to prevent the problem from occurring. If a water spot can not be brushed, often leaving a darker periphery, then there could have been a migration of dye and the uniformity of color can be difficult to restore. A cleaning specialist can help. If a garment gets seriously wet, you must take special care to prevent the skin from suffering when drying: Remove large or heavy items from pockets so they do not distort the garment while it dries Dry carefully with a dry towel to remove excess water Allow it to air dry at room temperature and keep it away from sunlight or direct heat When dry, you can apply a leather conditioner or an appropriate protective product.

Typical leather care products include cleaning solutions, cleaning kits, conditioners, polishers and color touch-up kits to hide scratches and scrapes. Some companies also have specialized products to remove ink or grease, or to restore the smell of new leather. You are advised to first try any care product in a discrete area and only use products that are designed for the type of leather in question.
